This holiday season, the Stream Energy employee family has been actively engaged in a toy drive to end all toy drives. In 2009, we set a record for toy donations made to Captain Hope’s Kids, and it was our stated goal for 2010 to smash last year’s results.

In a word, we crushed it.

Thanks to the combined generosity of all Stream Energy employees and many of our Ignite Associates, we gathered 2,313 toys for Captain Hope’s Kids this year.

If you visited the Stream Energy office in Dallas yesterday, you likely noticed that a camera crew took over the Diane Davis Auditorium space.

This was part of our planned New Year’s Eve sponsorship of the Big D NYE Fireworks Spectacular and New Year’s Eve countdown on WFAA Channel 8.

But we’re not just simply sponsoring one of the largest fireworks displays in the United States; we’re also using that bully pulpit to help spread the word about the good works performed by Captain Hope’s Kids.

Senior staff from Captain Hope’s Kids joined Stream Energy chairman Rob Snyder on camera to share their appreciation for all the toys donated by Stream Energy employees. More importantly, they shared the message that homeless children in our community need support. And their friends at Stream Energy are there for them!

As we prepare for the New Year, enjoy a video clip from WFAA promoting our Stream Energy Fireworks Spectacular.

A Little Ole Texas Company on the Global Stage

Attending the Platts Global Awards and Forum earlier this month was a special two days in New York City. To be in the same room with all these titans of the energy industry, from all over the world, was simply amazing. I was honored to accept the Award of Excellence on behalf of Stream Energy at the forum luncheon. And what was particularly exciting was that I seemed to gather a lot of attention after receiving the award, as many attendees were interested in the Stream Energy story.

The following day, Stream Energy chairman Rob Snyder and I attended the Platts Global Energy Awards ceremony. It was quite an experience, and it showed me just why the Platts Awards are truly considered the Oscars of the energy industry. Stream Energy was competing with energy companies from all over the world. To think it wasn’t that long ago we were just a bunch of upstart Texans who thought word of mouth consumer education might just be the way to successfully compete in the deregulated landscape. I guess you could say, “We’ve arrived.”

In describing the Rising Star Award, the event organizers noted, “Elbowing into a new space … takes guts, flawless execution, brilliant marketing and a tremendous organizational ability to learn fast.” To be up for award like this has been a great honor and a testament to all the great people at Stream Energy and all of our Independent Associates in Ignite.
